Impact Awards
The Science Students’ Council (SSC) would like to welcome you back for another great year of Science and Basic Medical Sciences at the University of Western Ontario!
It is with great pleasure that we present the Science Students’ Council Impact Awards, student bursaries awarded annually to full-time undergraduate students registered in Year 2 or beyond in the Faculty of Science or the Basic Medical Sciences.
The Science Students’ Council Impact Awards were created in 2009 with funding from the Science Student Endowment Fund. With the Impact Awards, the Science Students’ Council recognizes students who accomplish its mission of enhancing the educational experience and quality of life for themselves and their peers. There are four Impact Awards noted on the right hand column.

First Year Guide
The First-Year Science Guide was created by the SSC to provide incoming first-year science students with information that will smooth their transition process from high school to University.
The guide is included with the purchase of an orientation week kit during Western’s O-Week.
This guide is packed with tips, good ideas, and good advice.
First-year course instructors, academic counseling staff, and a wide variety of upper-year students were consulted to give you the best information possible!

Science Student Donation Fund (SSDF)
The Science Student Donation began as an initiative of the Science Students’ Council. Its purpose is to provide funds to the Faculty for the support of undergraduate students that would otherwise be unavailable to Science students.
The SSC recommends the donation allocations each Fall on the basis of requests from individual departments made each Spring.
Over the past several years, a significant fraction of the donation has been directed to supplement laboratory apparatus as well as the expansion of computer labs. Other initiatives have included the purchase of audio-visual equipment for classrooms, so that instructors can take advantage of more sophisticated technology in their lectures.
**Opting out of the donation is only done through the Dean’s Office until the end of September.

Locker Rentals
Lessen thy backpack burden! During the Fall semester, the Science Students’ Council oversees the sales of locker rentals located in the Natural Sciences Centre.
This service is on a first come first serve basis, so don’t wait!
Fees:
Single Term (Fall or Winter): $25/term
Full Academic Year (until April 30th): $40

Science Student Group Grant
The Student Group Grant fund is an SSC initiative designed to allow students in the Faculty of Science to procure funding for projects and endeavours they take part in.
To apply for an SGG, you'll need to fill out an application form which can be found on our website (under Documents).
Upon submission of this form to the Vice President Finance, your application will be reviewed by the Finance Committee, who will then make a recommendation to Council. Council then makes the ultimate decision on whether or not to award your group the amount requested.
